8th Pay Commission Salary Calculator: Your Pay Today and After
Choose your pay level and city, type your basic pay and a fitment factor, and compare your monthly pay today with the first month at that factor, if DA starts again at 0 as it did in 2016.
What the calculator adds up
Your gross pay for a month, before any deduction: basic pay, Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance (TA) and the DA on TA. The “Today” column uses the rates in force now. The other column multiplies your basic pay by the factor you choose and sets DA to 0, as happened when the 7th Pay Commission’s pay began on 1 January 2016. Whether DA will start again at 0 under the 8th Pay Commission is not decided.
It is for central government civilian employees on the 7th CPC pay matrix. The armed forces and the railways are paid DA, HRA and TA under their own orders, as the HRA order itself says, and the armed forces have their own pay matrix.
Example: Level 7, Cell 1 (basic pay ₹44,900), working in a X city, TA at the higher rate. Today: ₹44,900 + DA ₹28,287 (63%) + HRA ₹13,470 (30%) + TA ₹3,600 + DA on TA ₹2,268 = ₹92,525. At 2.57, with DA starting again at 0 as in 2016 and HRA at 24%: ₹1,15,393 + HRA ₹27,694 + TA ₹3,600 = ₹1,46,687, which is ₹54,162 (58.5%) more a month.
Basic pay
The pay in your Level and Cell of the 7th CPC pay matrix, without any allowance. Choose your level and cell above, or type your basic pay. The new basic pay is your basic pay times the factor, rounded to the nearest rupee, the way the 2016 pay rules did it with 2.57 (Rule 7, CCS (Revised Pay) Rules, 2016). In 2016 the figure was then moved up to the next cell of the new pay matrix if there was no cell at exactly that amount. The 8th Pay Commission’s matrix does not exist yet, so the calculator stops at the multiplied figure.
Dearness Allowance
DA is 63% of basic pay from 1 July 2026: the Cabinet approved the rise from 60% on 28 October 2026 (Cabinet decision), and the Finance Ministry’s order for it is to follow. Before that it was 60% from 1 January 2026 (order of 22 April 2026). To try another rate, type it under “Today’s DA rate, and HRA after the change”. DA is rounded to the nearest rupee: the DA orders say that 50 paise and more goes up to the next rupee and less is dropped. All past rates are on our DA rates page.
House Rent Allowance
HRA is a share of basic pay that depends on the city where you work: 30% in X cities, 20% in Y cities and 10% in Z places since 1 January 2024, when DA reached 50% (as, for example, the Delhi Development Authority’s circular of 19 July 2024 applies it). It is never less than ₹5,400, ₹3,600 or ₹1,800 a month (HRA order of 7 July 2017).
- X cities: Hyderabad, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Greater Mumbai, Pune, Chennai and Kolkata.
- Y cities: 88 cities and towns named in the order on city classes of 21 July 2015, such as Jaipur, Lucknow, Patna and Bhopal, and Mathura-Vrindavan from 1 March 2020 (order of 25 February 2020).
- Z: every other place.
Some places are paid at another place’s rate under the same 2017 order: Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Noida and Gurgaon at Delhi’s X rate; Goa, Port Blair and Shillong at the Y rate; Panchkula and Mohali at Chandigarh’s Y rate; Jalandhar Cantonment at Jalandhar’s. In the calculator, choose the class of the rate you are paid.
The same 2017 order set HRA at 24%, 16% and 8% to start with, rising to 27%, 18% and 9% when DA crossed 25% (from 1 July 2021) and to 30%, 20% and 10% when DA crossed 50% (from 1 January 2024). In 2016 it was not that simple: the 7th CPC’s HRA rates started only on 1 July 2017 (HRA order, paragraph 8). What the 8th Pay Commission will do with HRA is not known. By default, the calculator starts the 7th CPC’s rule again with DA at 0, which gives 24%, 16% or 8%. You can choose to keep today’s rate instead.
Transport Allowance
TA is a fixed amount a month, plus DA on it (TA order of 7 July 2017):
- Level 9 and above: ₹7,200 in the cities listed below, ₹3,600 everywhere else.
- Levels 3 to 8: ₹3,600 in the listed cities, ₹1,800 everywhere else.
- Levels 1 and 2: ₹1,350 in the listed cities, ₹900 everywhere else; ₹3,600 and ₹1,800 for those drawing pay of ₹24,200 or more (order of 2 August 2017).
The higher rates are paid in Hyderabad, Patna, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Surat, Bengaluru, Kochi, Kozhikode, Indore, Greater Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Jaipur, Chennai, Coimbatore, Ghaziabad, Kanpur, Lucknow and Kolkata. This list is not the same as the X cities for HRA. Officers at Level 14 and above who are entitled to an official car may draw ₹15,750 plus DA instead; the calculator does not cover that. After the change, the calculator keeps today’s TA amounts, with DA at 0.
What it leaves out
- Deductions: your NPS or UPS contribution, CGEGIS, income tax, licence fee and the like. So the answer is gross pay, not take-home pay.
- Whether you draw HRA and TA at all: the calculator assumes you draw both; not everyone does, and your office knows your case.
- Allowances that depend on your post or family: Children Education Allowance, Non-Practising Allowance, Military Service Pay, risk and special allowances, and others.
- Arrears: if the new pay starts from a date in the past, the difference for the months in between is usually paid as arrears. No start date has been decided.
This is arithmetic on a factor you choose, not your future pay. Your pay will be fixed by your office under the orders the Government issues after the 8th Pay Commission reports.
