8th Pay Commission Pension Calculator: Pension Today and After
Type your basic pension and a fitment factor to compare your monthly pension with Dearness Relief today against the first month at that factor, with the extra pension from age 80.
How pension was revised last time
When the 7th Pay Commission’s pay began on 1 January 2016, the pension of everyone who had retired before then was worked out in two ways, and each pensioner got whichever was higher (order of the Department of Pension & Pensioners’ Welfare of 12 November 2020, which brings the earlier orders together):
- The pension fixed under the 6th Pay Commission was multiplied by 2.57, and “The amount of revised pension/family pension so arrived at shall be rounded off to next higher rupee.” Only the basic pension was multiplied, not the extra pension paid from age 80.
- Or the pay at which the pensioner retired was fixed again, on paper, in the new pay matrix, and the pension became 50% of that pay (30% for family pension).
No pension could be less than ₹9,000 a month from 1 January 2016, and Dearness Relief started again at 0 on the revised pension. This calculator does the first way, with the factor you choose. The second way needs your pay history and the 8th Pay Commission’s pay matrix, which does not exist yet.
Example: a basic pension of ₹25,000. Today: ₹25,000 + DR ₹15,750 (63%) = ₹40,750. Multiplied by 2.57, with DR starting again at 0 as in 2016: ₹64,250, which is ₹23,500 (57.7%) more a month.
Dearness Relief
Dearness Relief (DR) for central government pensioners is 63% from 1 July 2026, the same rate as DA: the Cabinet approved the rise from 60% on 28 October 2026 (Cabinet decision), and the order for it is to follow. Before that it was 60% from 1 January 2026 (DR order of 24 April 2026). It is paid on the basic pension and on any extra pension for age, and “a fraction of a rupee shall be rounded off to the next higher rupee.”
Extra pension from age 80
- From 80 years: 20% of the basic pension
- From 85 years: 30%
- From 90 years: 40%
- From 95 years: 50%
- From 100 years: 100%
DR is paid on this extra pension too (order of 12 November 2020). Type your age in the calculator and it adds the extra pension, both today and after the change.
Who this is for
Central government civilian pensioners and family pensioners whose pension is paid under the old pension rules, including railway and All India Services pensioners, whether they retired before or after 2016. The calculator multiplies whatever basic pension you type, in the way pensions were revised in 2016. Pensions of the armed forces are revised by separate Ministry of Defence orders. The 8th Pay Commission’s terms of reference include the pensions of employees who are not under NPS or UPS (Gazette resolution of 3 November 2025). How the pensions of people who have already retired will be revised is not decided.
What it leaves out
- The commuted part of your pension, which is deducted for a number of years after you commute it.
- Income tax, and Fixed Medical Allowance.
- A new minimum pension: in 2016 it rose to ₹9,000. The 8th Pay Commission’s minimum is not known.
This is arithmetic on a factor you choose, not your future pension. For your own pension, ask your pension disbursing authority, and go by the orders the Government issues.
